Police: Teens Busted For Stealing iPad, Headphones, Meat In Troy

TROY (WWJ) - It's a reminder to lock your car doors as two teens face charges for stealing various items from vehicles in Troy.

The boys, ages 13 and 14, were arrested Friday after police said they caught in the act by a resident in a neighborhood south of I-75, and east of Livernois, in Troy.

Troy police responded last Friday to a call from the 2000 block of Kirkton Street where a homeowner said he saw two people enter into his silver 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Earlier in the week, the victim reported, someone had stolen an iPad, a pair of "Beats by Dre" headphones and some meat from his vehicle.

This time, police said, the victim spotted the suspects and then chased them on foot until he lost sight of them running east on Hickory Street.

Troy police put the department's Canine Eli on the case, and he sniffed them out -- finding the teens hiding behind a wooden fence on the east side of a residence in the 400 block of Hickory.

Under questioning, police said the teens confessed to the prior thefts as well as others in the immediate area.

Both suspects were released into their mothers’ custody after they signed their sons’ Juvenile Petitions, agreeing to bring them to court on charges of larceny from a vehicle. The boys are both residents of Troy, police said. Their names will not be released due to their age.
