Police Try To Bust Bottle Return Bandits: Do You Recognize These Men?

June 13, 2018 - 11:16 am

FORT GRATIOT TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police are trying to identify members of a bottle return fraud ring who have stolen hundreds of dollars using fake return slips.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office says at least four men are working together to carry out the return crimes.

In late May, police say the suspects went into the Walmart store in Fort Gratiot Township on at least three different occasions and produced bottle return slips totaling over $800. The fraudulent slips were printed on paper very similar to the paper used in the bottle return machines at Walmart, according to police. The suspects fled the scene in a small black crossover type vehicle.

A similar incident occurred at the same store a few months earlier in March. And police believe the same suspects may have also redeemed the phony bottle return slips at the Walmart store in Chesterfield Township.

Anyone who can identify the suspects or has any other information is asked to contact police at 810-987-1726.
