Police: Woman Found Dead, On Fire On Detroit's West Side

September 19, 2018 - 10:15 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating the death of a woman, apparently set on fire on the city's west side.

The Detroit Fire Department responded at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday to a 911 call about what was believed to be a trash fire in a backyard in the 1600 block of Glynn Ct., near the Lodge Freeway and Rosa Parks, according to police.

After firefighters put the fire out, DPD Capt. Michael McGinnis said firefighters "realized that it was the remains of what appears to be an adult female."

"They called the police," McGinnis said, "and Homicide and Arson (detectives) have responded and are conducting an investigation."

McGinnis said, as an investigation continues, it's unclear how the women died.

As police await assistance from the Wayne County Medical Examiner, the woman has not yet been identified, and her approximate age is unknown at this time.

Meanwhile, McGinnis said police are asking for tips from the public.

"If anyone saw anything on Glynn Court, the 1600 block of Glynn Court, please contact your local police department or precint and share that information with us," McGinnis said. "As well as if anyone has someone, a female, who did not return home last night to contact the precinct as well."
