Police: Woman Found Living With Adult Daughter's Corpse

July 02, 2018 - 2:41 pm

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 65-year-old woman was found to living with the body of her adult daughter in a house on Detroit's west side -- likely for months.

Detroit police Officer Dan Donakowski said Monday that the mother went to a police precinct Sunday and told officers that her daughter had died. Officers went to the home on Seebaldt Street and found the 47-year-old woman's body, covered in blankets.

Police spokeswoman Holly Lowe told The Detroit News that the mother told officers she couldn't part with her daughter after she died.

WJBK-TV and WXYZ-TV report that the woman's body may have been in the home for several months.

As an investigation continues, Donakowski said the Wayne County Medical Examiner must determine a cause of death, as well as when the woman died. However, sources cited by Fox 2 say the woman died last November.

No names have been released, no one has been arrested and no charges have been filed.

The Associated Press has requested autopsy information from the medical examiner's office.

This comes after at least two smilar cases this year in Michigan. In April, police said a Warren woman had been living with a 68-year-old man's decomposing body for several months without leaving the house or alerting authorities.

Seperately, back in January, police said a Monroe County man was found to be living with his girlfriend about a month after they estimate she died. The 56-year-old woman's body was found after police were called to the couple's apartment by the landlord, who'd wondered about the whereabouts of the female tenant.

The Associated Press contribued to this report.
