Pontiac Man Charged With Drunk, Reckless Driving In Fatal Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 29-year-old Pontiac man is jailed on multiple charges following a fatal accident in Detroit over the weekend. 

Authorities allege that Jarod Najee Richardson was driving drunk and recklessly when he caused the crash that killed a 34-year-old-man and severely injured his 27-year-old female passenger on Saturday, May 5. 

According to investigators, Richardson was Irving eastbound on W. McNichols at around 12:40 a.m. when did not yield or stop at an unlit traffic light, colliding with another car and causing both vehicles to leave the roadway. 

The two people in the other car were taken by EMS to a local hospital where the driver was pronounced dead. The condition of the passenger is unknown at this time. 

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Monday that Richardson is charged with the following: Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury, Reckless Driving Causing Serious Injury, and Operating While Intoxicated.

He was arraigned in 36th District Court Monday afternoon and ordered held on a $30,000, 10 percent bond. 

A probable cause conference in the case was scheduled for May 15 and a preliminary exam for May 22, both before Judge Lydia Nance Adams.
