July 24, 2019 - 3:30 pm

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A suspect in the death of a missing Lansing man has been charged with his murder in Oakland County.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said 46-year-old Paul Anthony Hall of Pontiac was arraigned Tuesday in 50th District Court on open murder and firearms charges in connection with the death of 42-year-old Eugene Bass.

Investigators believe Bass was slain in the area of Midland and Michigan Ave. in Pontiac back on May 23.

People at the scene told deputies that someone in a silver Chevrolet Equinox had been shot outside a home on Midland. While investigators couldn't find the vehicle or the victim, they learned from witnesses that the SUV in question was known to belong to Hall, and deputies found a spent shell casing in the driveway.

While Bass' body was not been found, sheriff's officials say his blood and DNA were discovered in Hall's Equinox.

As the search for Bass' body continues, Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward in the case. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (1-800-773-2587). As always, tipsters may stay 100 percent anonymous, will not be asked their names, to speak to police or to testify.

Hall has numerous previous felony convictions for crimes including fleeing and eluding police, aggravated assault, domestic violence and delivery/manufacture of drugs. He remains held without bond awaiting an August 1 probable cause conference before Judge Ronda Fowlkes Gross.
