Questions Surround Deadly Double Shooting In Mt. Clemens

July 05, 2018 - 3:27 pm

MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) - Authorities are searching for three persons of interest after a man was fatally shot, and a woman was wounded, at a 4th of July block party in Mt. Clemens.

Macomb County Sheriff's deputies got a call about shots fired around 12:20 a.m. Thursday, and arrived in the area of Court and Clemens streets to find a large crowd had gathered. That's when they further learned that two people had been shot and were taken to the hospital.

According to Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, 24-year-old Charlie McGowan of Clinton Township was fatally wounded. A 26-year-old Clinton Township woman received non-life injuries to her leg.

Wickersham said 17 spent shell casings from three different weapons were found at the scene.

"There may have been some return gunfire," Wickersham told reporters. "The suspects that we may be looking for...there is a possibility that one, or several, may have been hit. But we're still following up at this time."

Wickersham said one of the suspects had a history with McGowan, and he may have been the target.  Other circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.

"Where she was at and where our victim is at were two seperate areas," the sheriff said. "So, again, we don't have a motive yet. We know there's a little bit of a feud with the information that we currently have."

As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and investigators were still hoping to get more information from witnesses.

The names of the three people investigators were looking for were not immediately released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 586-307-9358.
