The demand for air travel has been severely curtailed as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, only 331,000 passengers passed through TSA checkpoints on Monday, which is an 86% drop compared to one year ago, reported CNN.

With flights nearly empty and travelers putting travel itineraries on hold due to COVID-19, the major airlines have been waiving the fees for changing or cancelling flights.

Here are the updated policies for some of the biggest domestic carriers, according to “Today" and The Points Guy.

American Airlines

American will waive flight-change fees on any tickets purchased before March 1 for travel through April 30. In addition, anyone who purchased a ticket in March 2020 for travel through Feb. 28, 2021, can make changes without paying a fee.

Delta Air Lines

Delta will allow a free one-time change on itineraries through May 31. Those itineraries can also be canceled for free. Furthermore, any tickets purchased in March 2020 can make unlimited free itinerary changes, but a fare difference will apply.

JetBlue

JetBlue is waiving change and cancellation fees for bookings made by March 10 for travel from March 10 through April 30. In addition, they are waiving fees for tickets purchase between March 6 and March 31 for travel through Sept. 8.

Southwest Airlines

You may not be able to pick your seat, but Southwest is one of the only domestic airlines which doesn't charge change or cancellation fees. Their lax policy still stands amid the pandemic.

United Airlines

United is waiving change fees on all tickets purchased by March 2 for travel through May 31. If you rebook, the new itinerary must be issued by December 31st. In addition, they are waiving change fees on all itineraries booked between March 3 and March 31.

As the outbreak continues to spread, passengers are urged to check their airlines’ websites to get the most up-to-date information about policies, fees and cancellations.
