LISTEN NOW as the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump enters its third and final week.

The impeachment trial of President Donald Trump enters its third and final week. Both the House Managers and White House legal team will each get two hours for their arguments before the Senate goes back into normal session.

Senators voted on Friday afternoon against calling new witnesses and documents at the Trump impeachment trial.

The motion was struck down 51-49, reports CNN.

Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Mitt Romney deviated from their party, voting with Democrats in support of the motion.

Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, two potential GOP swing votes, voted with their party, ensuring Democrats were defeated.

Senators returned for questions in Trump's impeachment trial on Thursday afternoon.

The question-and-answer portion of the trial began on Wednesday afternoon after the third and final day of opening arguments from the president's legal team on Tuesday.

NBC News reported that senators had to submit their questions in writing to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) or Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D). The leaders will present questions to Chief Justice John Roberts. Roberts will then announce the name of the person who asked the question and read each question to the room.

Roberts will also alternate the questions from Republicans and Democrats. Both sides will have a total of 16 hours over two days for questions.

Frank Thorp, a reporter for NBC News, shared the official question card to his Twitter page. Thorp also shared that McConnell said the Q&A period will go for eight hours, alternating between majority and minority. A second day of that period will happen on Thursday afternoon for eight hours.

McConnell told both sides that their questions should be as brief as possible, but didn't indicate a specific time limit.
