Rep. Rashida Tlaib On Trump: 'Impeach The Motherf***er'

January 04, 2019 - 8:30 am

(WWJ) - As Democrats pass bills to reopen the government, a new member of Michigan's congressional delegation is getting attention for something she called President Donald Trump.

She's only been on the job for one day, but U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib is getting attention around the world for calling President Trump an expletive.

Within hours of being sworn in as one of the first Muslim members of Congress, Tlaib -- who represents parts of Detroit in Michigan's 13th Congressional District -- attended a rally Thursday held by the left-leaning Democratic group Move On. There, she relayed a conversation she had with her young son regarding bullies and the impeachment of President Trump. But it's her choice of words that's getting attention.

"People love you and you win. And when your son looks at you and says, 'Mama, look you won. Bullies don't win.' And I said, 'Baby, they don't, because we’re gonna go in there and we’re gonna impeach the mother***er,'" Tlaib told the roaring crowd.

Tlaib followed up Friday morning with a tweet that included the hashtag "unapologeticallyMe."

A statement released by Tlaib's office, through communications director Denzel McCampbell, said the congresswoman was elected "to shake up Washington, not continue the status quo."

"Donald Trump is completely unfit to serve as President. The Congresswoman absolutely believes he needs to be impeached," McCampbell said. "She ran and won by making this very clear to voters in her district. Donald Trump's actions have harmed the 13th Congressional District and this country, and Congresswoman Tlaib will not stay silent when this happens."

The president has not issued a direct response about Tlaib's comments, though he did tweet about impeachment.
