August 23, 2018 - 6:03 pm

WARREN (WWJ) - One person has reportedly died following what witnesses described as horrific crash along Schoenherr Road in Warren.

According to Warren police, two vehicles were involved in the wreck at Schoenherr and Common, north of 12 Mile Road, late Thursday afternoon, that killed a 21-year-old college student.

Speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950 shortly before 5:30 p.m., police said at least one person was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries, it's been reported that the victim succumbed to his injuries.

It's unknown at this time what led to the crash, and police say they do not know yet whether speed, distracted driving, drugs, or alcohol may have been involved.

Video from the scene showed what appeared to be a silver sedan -- reportedly on fire at one point -- was destroyed in the crash. The other vehicle, a maroon mini van, had significant front-end damage. It's unclear at this time how many people were in the vehicles.

A tipster calling WWJ reported the crash was blocking all northbound lanes of Schoenherr, in the area of Common and Hayes, near the Warren Roseville border.

Investigators had the roadway closed for several hours during the investigation.
