Response To Loss Of Bowling Equipment For High School Team Overwhelming

December 07, 2018 - 12:12 am

MONROE (WWJ) - An outpouring of support for the Monroe High School bowling team who lost all of their equipment after fire destroyed Nortel Lanes.

A message posted on Facebook says people from local schools and universities as far away as Tennessee were willing to help with donations.

The team says they have more used equipment then they will ever use and plan to let all schools in the Monroe area look and see if they need anything.

The popular bowling alley was a total loss following the overnight fire.

The fire took off shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday at Nortel Lanes on Telegraph Road, between Stewart and Custer roads.

A cause of the fire hasn't been determined, but officials think it may have started in the kitchen after the 66-lane alley closed for business around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
