MASON, Mich. (WWJ) - A Romulus man has been charged with murder after he allegedly drove drunk, causing a crash that killed his two children.

According to the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, witnesses reported 29-year-old Damerious Robert Church was driving aggressively and attempting to pass vehicles on the shoulder of I-96, just east of Zimmer Road, when he lost control of his car, leaving the roadway backwards and striking a tree with the rear of the vehicle.

His two children in the backseat -- a 9-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl from Grand Rapids -- died at the scene, the sheriff's office said. Church also suffered serious injuries.

On Tuesday,  Church was arraigned in 55th District Court in Mason on two counts of second degree murder, two counts of operating while intoxicated (OWI) causing death, and two counts of driving with license suspended or revoked causing death.

Bond was set at $25,000 and his next court date was scheduled for Thursday, June 13.
