Sheriff: 5 People Rescued After Boat Flips On Orchard Lake

July 30, 2018 - 1:54 pm

ORCHARD LAKE (WWJ) - Five people had been be rescued from the water after their boat capsized on an Oakland County lake.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, deputies with the Marine Unit were patrolling Orchard Lake at around 5 p.m. Sunday spotted the group -- including two small children -- floating in the water.

The deputies, with the help of County Wide Jump Boats and some Good Samaritan boaters, were able to pull all of them out to safety.

Investigators found that a boater was towing an inflatable tube which caused a wake large enough to flip the 12-foot aluminum boat, throwing all its five occupants into the lake. Fortunately, all of them -- including a 25-year-old Redford woman, a 30-year-old Novi woman, a 25-year-old Novi man, and two Novi boys, ages 7 and 5 -- were wearing life jackets.

No injuries were reported.

The Sheriff's Office said the boater responsible for the incident was not located.

No names were released.
