Sheriff: Divers Recover Body Of Drowning Victim In White Lake

July 17, 2018 - 3:19 pm

WHITE LAKE TWP. (WWJ) - It was a tragic ending to a days long search as divers recovered the body of a drowning victim in Oakland County.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said divers, which had been searching since late Sunday afternoon for a 55-year-old Livingston County man in White Lake, found him on Tusday.

The victim's wife told authorities her husband he had been swimming around and underneath his pontoon boat when he went underwater in the Highland Township portion of White Lake, near the residential neighborhood of Seven Harbors.

"It was obviously a very hot day. He was hot, said he was overheating so he was going to jump into the water to cool off," said Sheriff Mike Bouchard. "And she didn't see him surface. She tried a number of times herself to locate him and could not."

The man's name has not yet been released, but officials said he was a resident of Hartland, Michigan.

Bouchard said that said while investigators do not suspect any foul play, an autopsy will be conducted on the victim to determine whether the victim had any sort of medical emergency while under water.

In a tweet, the sheriff added, "We appreciate the community’s patience and support of the family in this tragedy."

The discovery comes a day after divers found the body of young woman who also drowned over the weekend while swimming off Belle Isle.
