DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police say no one is hurt following a shooting near a Detroit school building Monday.

Authorities say shots were fired near Detroit Leadership Academy on the city's west side near Ford Road and the Southfield Freeway.

Details of the shooting, which occurred as students were being dismissed, are unclear at this time, but police tell WWJ the shooting occurred near the charter building, which houses the middle and high schools.

There were reports that the the school was on lockdown and students were hurried back into the school when the shots rang out.

The school board president, Mark Lezotte, released the following statement:

“We ask that you all keep the Detroit Leadership Academy community in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to work through this difficult situation. The immediate and protective action of our trained staff helped ensure that no students or staff were injured. We must work diligently to ensure that schools remain a safe place for our students.
