Sinkhole In Clinton Township Closes 15 Mile Road Near Harper

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - If your commute includes 15 Mile Road in Clinton Township you may need to find an alternate route.

A stretch of road on 15 Mile near Harper Avenue is closed in both directions in the area due to a sinkhole that has opened up.

Police are telling WWJ that they started getting calls around 4:40 a.m. Monday from drivers who were hitting the hole and getting flat tires and busted rims in the process.

Authorities say 15 Mile between Harper and Gratiot roads will be closed throughout the morning.

WWJ's Charlie Langton says the sinkhole is about 5-feet long and 2-3 feet wide. "The problem is there is nothing underneath the road. It's hollow," says Lanton. " They're going to need a lot of dirt."

The alternative for drivers could be 14 Mile Road or Metro Parkway.
