Smash-And-Grab Thieves Strike Again: Liquor Stores Back To Back

June 28, 2018 - 6:50 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two liquor stores were the latest targets for smash-and-grab robberies on Detroit's west side Thursday morning.

The suspects first used a stolen pickup truck to try to smash into New Joy Express liquor store, along Joy near Livernois, but they were unable to get inside. The suspects then went to the Grand Discount Party Store, on Linwood near Davison, and again used the truck to ram into the side of the building -- only this time, they were successful. Owners are still trying to determine what was stolen.

Investigators found the truck abandoned about a block away from the Grand Discount Party Store.

Sam Kajy, who owns New Joy Express with his brother, said it's getting harder and harder to do business in the city.

"I mean, I think I can laugh more than I can cry now. It's just, like, we're used to it now. That's why it's time to wrap it up. It's not worth it no more," Kajy told WWJ's Mike Campbell.

The suspects remain at large.
