(WWJ) Once again, residents of southwest Detroit could be left asking "What's that smell?"

Following in the wake of a mass of complaints about an odd odor emanating from the Marathon Petroleum refinery on Sunday, the city of Detroit is recommending today that residents stay indoors due to possible odor emission.

This time, the smell is coming from the repairs.

On Feb. 3, the odor was caused by a flare at the refinery that was not properly functioning.

Marathon officials said they're beginning repairs to the malfunctioning flare Friday afternoon.

"As a precautionary measure, we will continue air monitoring for several hours after we de-activate the flare, in case there is any residual gas in the flare during the final de-activation process. We have notified local emergency response agencies of our plans," officials said.
