Son Of Warren Police Commissioner Found Dead Weeks After Fire

November 16, 2018 - 6:40 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - A body found weeks after a house fire on Detroit's west side has been identified as that of the son of Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.

The fire happened on October 26 in a vacant house on Bramell, near Lahser and McNichols roads, although the body wasn't discovered until Wednesday -- almost three weeks later.

Dwyer confirmed the positive identification to WWJ saying, "Sadly, it's true." He declined to comment further.

Michael Dwyer's body was identified using fingerprints, according to reports. The 55-year-old's cause of death is pending from the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.

The home reportedly wasn't searched after the fire because it wasn't structurally sound. Southfield police were apparently following up on a missing person's report when they found the body this week.

An investigation is ongoing.
