All he had was a bowl of soup

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - A young trainee at a Macomb County cafe was speechless, her manager says, when she received a 2000% tip.

Making the rounds on Facebook, a photo of the bill for a bowl of French Onion soup shows $4.95 plus tax, with a $100 tip added.

It happened at Eos Cafe and Coffee House on Jefferson Ave., where high school senior Olivia is training to be a server.

"She didn't even look at what the tip was when she took the order," manager Amy Kilcher told WWJ Newsradio 950's Dan Jenkins. "We took the food out to him and as I was walking away from him he said 'Amy, come here. I wanted to let you know I just left a generous tip and I want it just to go to Olivia."

When Kilcher showed the teen the register receipt: "She was speechless," Kilcher said. "Then she started (saying) 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, this is huge!' She's like, 'What do I do? How do I thank him?' I said you should just go say thank you."

The teen packed up some chocolate chip cookies, took them out to the customer and said thank you "probably a dozen times,"  Kilcher said. "It was just the sweetest thing. Oliva is a brand new trainee, a senior in high school and this is her first real job."

The generous tipper is a regular at the restaurant, but had never done anything like this before, according to Kilcher.

She said Olivia is a good student and is planning to save the money as she prepares to go to college.
