St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach Reopens; 23 Michigan Beaches Still Closed Due To Bacteria

July 13, 2018 - 1:53 pm

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - There's good news and bad news for beach goers ahead of another balmy summer weekend in Michigan.

As of Friday, July 13, a total of 23 beaches are closed statewide due to high levels of bacteria in the water, down from a solid two dozen late last month.

A bright spot is Macomb County, which St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach -- which had been shut down due to e. coli in the water -- is back open after tests found it's safe the swim. Note that Lake St. Clair Metropark Beach, aka "Metro Beach", which has been a trouble spot in the past, is also in good shape.

Most of the affected beaches closed at this time are located in Upper Peninsula, which experienced heavy rains and severe flooding in recent weeks, but a few are downstate.
