DETROIT (WWJ) -- An 18-year-old man is dead after losing control of his car on a Detroit freeway Sunday morning.

Michigan State Police say a preliminary investigation showed the man was driving along eastbound I-96 shortly before 11 a.m. when he lost control of his car near West Chicago. He drove up onto the embankment and hit a tree.

No other vehicles were involved.

One passenger was injured in the crash, but not seriously, police said. Another occupant in the vehicle was uninjured.

Police did not say whether drugs or alcohol may have contributed to the crash and it was unclear how fast the car was going at the time of the crash.

An investigation is still ongoing.
