State Police: Plastic Bag Of Human Remains Found In Northern Michigan

May 07, 2019 - 3:51 pm

FRIENDSHIP TWP. (WWJ) - Michigan State Police with the Gaylord Post are investigating after a troubling discovery Up North.

On Monday, police say, troopers were called to West Townline Rd. in Emmet County's Friendship Township, north of Petoskey, on a report of a suspicious plastic bag believed to contain cremated human remains.

Troopers arrived, saw the bag and called the nearby Stone Funeral Home for assistance. Upon further investigation, funeral home personnel were able to confirm that the bag indeed contained cremated human remains.

It's unclear at this time if foul play is suspected.

As an investigation continues, many questions remain, including to whom the remains belong, how the person died and why the bag was left abandoned. No further details have yet been released.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post 1-989-732-5141.
