State Police: Woman Arrested For Driving Drunk Up North After Kids Call 911

(WWJ) A woman has been arrested for driving drunk in Northern Michigan after police say her frightened children called 911.

According to Michigan State Police, the kids were crying on the phone the night of July 11, saying their mom was drunk behind the wheel of the Audi A5 and refused to pull over in Charlevoix County's Melrose Township.

Troopers responded to the area to the find the vehicle stopped on US-131 near the M-75 highway, with Boyne City police officers already on the scene. 

The driver, identified by police as 44-year-old Kamela Foltz of Ft. Worth, Texas, was suspected to be intoxicated, police said, and evidence of open alcohol was found in a passenger compartment. 

Police said Foltz reissued during her arrest and blood draw before she was taken to jail. Her children, a 13-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl, were not hurt. 

Foltz is charged with operating while intoxicated with minors in the vehicle, have an open container of alcohol in the car and resisting and obstructing police. She was arraigned in 90th District Court Tuesday and released on bond.
