Sterling Heights' Dodge Park Reopens With New Splash Pad, Farmers Market Pavilion, Amphitheater, More

June 28, 2018 - 4:53 pm

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A shiny new splash pad, mini soccer field, volleyball courts, farmers market pavilion and amphitheater are some of the highlights as Sterling Heights showcases a renovated Dodge Park.

Following a two-year renovation, multi-million-dollar, the park reopened Thursday morning, just in time to host a big, day-long bash in celebration of the city's 50th anniversary.

“There is so much potential to develop Sterling Heights as a place renowned for recreational opportunities,” said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor, in announcing the project. “Creating new levels for our residents to connect with the City is exactly what placemaking strives to do. These new recreational amenities will be destinations for our residents and an attraction for families looking for an outstanding quality of life."

At 5 p.m. the city will be giving away free cupcakes to the first 2,000 people, courtesy of Meijer, as the party continues. Evening festivities will feature the first farmers market and "Music in the Park" concert of the season, followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. [See a complete events scheduled here].

While the revamped park is getting rave reviews, the splash pad is sure to be the biggest hit this weekend as temperatures spike into the mid-90s, with high humidity making it feel like 100-plus degrees on Satuday.

Park visitors should note that splash pad admission is FREE for Sterling Heights residents, while non-residents must pay a $5 per-person fee. (Children under 2 years old are free). The splash pad is now open daily  from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., through September 3, weather permitting. Proper swim attire is required and water shoes are recommended.
