Suspect Arrested After Overnight Stabbing In Monroe

At first, the incident was believed to be an accident

MONROE, Mich. (WWJ) -- A suspect has been arrested following a stabbing in Monroe overnight.

Authorities say around 3 a.m. Saturday Monroe police responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street in regards to a subject bleeding from the abdomen.

Initial reports indicated that the wound was accidental and the victim had falled onto an unknown object.

As officers continued to investigate, however, they learned that an unknown subject had actually stabbed the victim. 

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Authorities say the victim is now in stable condition.

Police say they were able to identify the suspect and he was arrested a short time later.
