Suspect In Custody After Off-Duty Officer Carjacked At Detroit Gas Station

MELVINDALE (WWJ) - Police have captured a suspect who allegedly carjacked an off-duty officer at a gas station in southwest Detroit. 

The off-duty Harper Woods Police officer was leaving a gas station on Fort and Clark streets around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday when he was approached by a man with a gun.

The suspect then took off in the officer's Dodge Ram, which was loaded with police equipment including his gun, badge and body armor.

A chase ensued that stretched into Melvindale, where the suspect ditched the Ram in a neighborhood and took off on foot, hopping over fences and cutting through yards. He was eventually caught and taken into custody.

No injuries were reported.

Police are still looking for one or two additional suspects.

The incident remains under investigation.
