Suspect Gets Away On Foot After Police Chase, Crash

March 20, 2019 - 8:03 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - A high-speed police chase ended in a serious crash on Detroit's east side with the suspect getting away on foot.

The situation unfolded around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when Warren police attempted to stop a black Range Rover that was traveling at a high rate of speed. Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said the driver refused to stop, so officers initiated a pursuit that went down Schoenherr.

Dwyer said officers lost track of the suspect around 9 Mile Road and Groesbeck. Moments later, officers received a report that the suspect had crashed into a green SUV at the intersection of Hoover and Groesbeck, south of 8 Mile Road. The suspect also crashed into a light pole, knocking down the lines.

After the crash, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Two men inside his vehicle were injured and transported to the hospital in unknown conditions.

The other driver was trapped inside her vehicle, but was extracted and taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The suspect remains at large. No description was provided.

An investigation is ongoing.
