HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - Highland Park police say a man wanted in connection with an apparent domestic violence situation has peacefully turned himself in.

Officers responded Tuesday morning to a home on Grand Street, along the Davison Freeway just east of Woodward Avenue, where a 32-year-old man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and held her hostage overnight at gunpoint. The woman was able to escape and get out of the house when the man fell asleep.

"He cut her and then he also put a weapon to her head and to his head," said Police Chief Chester Logan.

Officers believed the man had barricaded himself inside the home with a weapon, so a perimeter was established around the property. Dressed in riot gear and armed with long guns, officers surrounded the home for more than two hours. They eventually entered the home and discovered the man was not inside.

Police were searched for the suspect before he turned himself in without incident during the noon hour.

His name has not been released with expected charges pending.
