Suspect Who Allegedly Shot At Dearborn Officer Taken Into Custody

June 20, 2018 - 7:00 am

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A suspect who fled after allegedly taking a shot at a Dearborn police officer has been taken into custody.

The incident unfolded early Wednesday morning when the suspect allegedly assaulted and robbed a woman in the area of Vaughan and Evergreen, then stole a vehicle. Dearborn Police got involved and one of their cruisers was eventually in a crash with the suspect, who took off running in the area of Kenilworth and Henn.

At some point during the incident, the suspect fired a shot at police. No one was injured.

Police fanned out in the neighborhood and spent several hours searching for the suspect before he was apprehended. Several K-9 units were brought in and residents were told to stay inside.

"They just blocked off every intersection, every street, and started getting out of their cars with rifles, guns drawn. They had a Wayne County chopper in the air, too," Mohammad Hacham told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "It was just crazy."

An investigation is ongoing.
