SUV Crashes Into Pool, Fence, Shed In Sterling Heights

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A dozing driver has been taken to a local hospital after crashing an into a backyard, doing some major damage.

According to Sterling Heights police, the man fell asleep while driving northbound along M-53 (Van Dyke Ave), south of Hall Road (M-59), lost control of his vehicle -- skidding into a backyard in the 43000 block of Fortner.

That's where police say he plowed through a fence before striking an above ground pool and a shed. The shed and the pool were destroyed, and the fence was also severely damaged.

No one was home at the time of the crash, according to police, and no addition injuries were reported.

The driver suffered what were described as minor injuries and was expected to be OK. His name, age and other details are not being released at this time. 

It's unclear what charges he is likely to face as an investigation continues. 

The crash, which happened during Thursday's afternoon commute, caused gawker delays as drivers slowed down to see what was going on. The right lane was blocked by police, and traffic was heavy back to 18 Mile Road.
