Teen Riding Bike Dies After Being Struck By Suspected Drunk Driver

SCIPIO TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities say a Hillsdale County teen riding a bike has died afer he was struck by a young driver who was allegedly under the influence.

The crash happened 10 p.m. Tuesday on Mosherville Road near Borden Road in Scipio Township.

Witnesses tell police 16-year-old Braxton Petrie, of Jonesville, was riding his bike when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Mosherville Road. He was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. 

The driver involved, a 20-year-old Jonesville resident, stayed at the scene and was interviewed by police. 

According to police, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
