These Swiss Cake Rolls Recalled Due To Salmonella

Throw them right in the trash

July 19, 2018 - 3:25 pm

(WWJ)  How do you eat a Swiss cake roll? Under normal circumstances, you can peel off the delicious chocolate layer and unroll it, or chew it in a few big bites.

But right now, you should throw it right in the trash. You can also return them for a full refund.

Flower Foods, Inc. voluntarily recalled Swiss Rolls Wednesday due to salmonella concerns.

The recall includes the product sold under the following brand names: Mrs. Freshley's, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker's Treat, Market Square and Great Value, distributed nationwide.

Note that these are not the ubiquitous Little Debbie version of the sweet treat. The Mrs. Flowers brand is sold at Walmart, Food Lion and other grocers.

This recall was initiated by a third-party whey powder manufacturer and supplier. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled items. See below for list of UPC #s and "best by" dates, Flower Foods said in a statement.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others.
