Redford Residents Get Rude Awakening With Tornado Siren

July 06, 2018 - 6:33 am

REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - A power outage in Redford Township caused a false tornado siren alarm in the middle of the night -- for a half-hour.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Friday when a power outage caused a glitch in the township's computer system. This happened after strong storms rolled through the area overnight.

The police department was flooded with calls by concerned and irate residents. Only one siren was effected, at the intersection of 7 Mile and Beech Daly, but it rang for roughly 30 minutes before officials could get it turned off.
