Traffic Alert: East I-696 Closed From Telegraph To I-75 This Weekend

August 03, 2018 - 10:43 am

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Here we go again.

For the second weekend in a row, the Michigan Department of Transportation is closing a section of eastbound I-696 from Telegraph Road (US-24) to I-75 in Oakland County.

The closure -- beginning at 8 p.m on Friday, Aug. 3 and ending at 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6 -- includes all entrance ramps.

The official detour is southbound M-10 to eastbound Davison Freeway, then northbound I-75 to eastbound I-696.
There will also be lane closures on westbound I-696 from Telegraph Road to I-275 with one lane open at all times.
Beginning next week, the eastbound I-696 ramp to Dequindre Road will be closed until mid-August for concrete removal and replacement. This will allow the ramp to be completed and reopened after eastbound traffic is shifted across the median to the new pavement.

Reminder: Westbound I-696 remains closed in Macomb County from I-94 to Dequindre Road through the fall.

This weekend work is part of the larger "Restore the Reuther" project that launched at the end of April. The project is expected to be completed by November.
