Traffic Alert: Final Extended Closure Of WB I-696 This Weekend

June 29, 2018 - 11:32 am

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - This is the final weekend you'll need a detour around the miles-long westbound I-696 closure in Oakland County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will close westbound 696 from Dequindre to Telegraph starting at 9 p.m. Friday. The closure, which includes all entrance ramps, will run until early Monday morning. This will be the final planned weekend closure for this segment before crews move to another segment in Oakland County.

The official detour will be westbound 8 Mile Road (M-102) to M-10 to Telegraph Road (US-24) or westbound I-696, with access from I-94 in Macomb County and I-75 in Oakland County.

NOTE: Only the Couzens Avenue ramp to westbound I-696 will remain open to provide access to northbound and southbound I-75; however, this ramp will not provide access to I-696. Couzens Avenue is closed over I-696 through the end of the project.

This weekend work is part of the larger "Restore the Reuther" project that launched at the end of April, with the complete closure of westbound I-696 in Macomb County from I-94 to Dequindre Road through November.

Drivers should keep in mind that eastbound I-696 remains open in both Oakland and Macomb counties.
