Transgender Woman Shot During Struggle Over Gun At Gas Station

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for the suspect who shot a transgender woman at a gas station on the city's west side.

Police say the shooting happened just after 8 p.m. Monday at the Mobil gas station along W. 7 Mile Road, east of Greenfield Road.

According to police, the suspect first exchanged words with the 29-year-old victim in the parking lot. The incident carried on inside of the gas station, during which the suspect pulled out a handgun. The victim attempted to take the weapon from the suspect and during the struggle, she was shot.

The suspect fled the scene in a black SUV.

The victim was seriously injured but is expected to recover.
