INKSTER (WWJ) - One gun per night -- that's the rate state police troopers in Inkster are seizing weapons off the street.

Michigan State Police say troopers have taken four guns off the streets of Inkster in four nights.

The latest seizure was made around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday after troopers conducted a traffic stop on Middlebelt and Cherry Hill roads. The driver, who had no insurance, took off running but was caught and arrested after a short foot chase. Meantime, a .45 caliber handgun was found inside the man's vehicle. He was taken to jail for carrying a concealed weapon and resist and obstruct police.

Police didn't provide details on the other three seizures, but say directed patrols to curtail a recent spike in violent crime in the area will continue.
