Troy Man Charged With Drunk Driving In Fatal Rochester Hills Crash

June 14, 2018 - 10:57 am

TROY (WWJ) - A Troy man has been arraigned on drunken driving charges in connection with a fatal crash in Rochester Hills.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, 21-year-old Alexander Munch lost control of his vehicle as he was driving eastbound on South Boulevard near Fredmoore Drive, after midnight last Saturday.

The vehicle crossed the center line into the westbound lanes and then through a ditch, investigators said, before striking a utility pole and coming to a stop.

A 21-year-old man, Talon Dawson -- who was in the front passenger seat -- died in the accident.  A 55-year-old back seat passenger is still in the hospital being treated for serious injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

Making an appearance in 52-3 District Court Thursday, Munch was charged with one count of operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15 year felony, and one count of operating while intoxicated causing injury, a 5 year felony.

He was given a $50,000 cash bond with conditions that, if he's released, he stays sober, submits to daily sobriety tests, does not drive, and remains under house arrest with a GPS tether.

Munch will be back in court for a probable cause conference scheduled for June 28. The crash remains under investigation.
