Troy Police Investigate Reported Gunfire, Find Nothing Suspicious

March 12, 2019 - 2:06 pm

TROY (WWJ) - Some Troy schools and churches were lockdown for a time Tuesday, as police investigated reports of shots fired.

Troy Police Sgt. Megan Lehman said police officers were searching the area of Wattles and Livernois after gunshots were heard around 9 a.m.  A police helicopter was up and searching the area, and schools and churches were advised to lock their doors as a precaution.

Later in the afternoon, Lehman told WWJ Newsradio 950 that police officers were in the area least an hour and didn't find anything, or anyone, suspicious.

She said it's unclear what the sound was, but it could have been a hunter as there are some woods around.

There were no injuries reported.

Anyone who may have heard or seen something can call Troy police at 248-524-3300.
