Unidentified Body Found In Swim Area At Lake Michigan Beach

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WWJ) - Police on Michigan's west coast are conducting a death investigation after a body was recovered from Grand Haven State Park Beach, northwest of Grand Rapids.

According to Grand Haven Department of Public Safety, the victim -- a black male -- was spotted in Lake Michigan by witnesses at around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, around 30 feet from shore within the swim area, north of the pavilion.

Police say there have been no reports of missing people as they continue to work to identify the man, who was believed to be around 20 to 35 years old and 5'8'' to 6' tall. 

The man was wearing a black swimsuit and a black tank top with “Michigan” in white letters across the front, above a picture of a motorcycle. 

Police do not know at this time how he died and said an autopsy will be performed to verify a cause of death.
