VAN BUREN TWP. (WWJ) - A Canton Township teen has been charged with murder after authorities say he caused a fatal crash when he shouldn't have even been driving.

Micaiah Carlin Minor, 17, was arraigned in 34th District Court Saturday on a charge of second degree murder, and ordered held on a $50,000/10% bond.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Minor was speeding southbound on Belleville Road, near Ecorse Road in Van Buren Township, early in the morning of May 7. when he blew through a red light. That's when crossed over the double yellow line into northbound traffic, police said, and collided head-on with another vehicle.

The man in that vehicle, 64-year-old John McElreath of Van Buren Township, was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he died.

Minor was driving without a license, according to prosecutors. He was also hospitalized with injuries sustained in the crash.

If Minor is able to post bond and is released, the judge ordered that he wear a GPS tether.

He will be back in court for a preliminary examination, scheduled for May 29.
