UPDATE: 21 Michigan Beaches Closed Due To Bacteria Levels; A Few Reopen

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - As the July 4th holiday nears, there's good news and bad news for Michigan beach-goers.

Two dozen beaches were closed statewide last week due to high levels of bacteria in the water. 

However, three of those have since reopened  -- including Lake St. Clair Metropark Beach, aka "Metro Beach" -- after tests found it's now safe the swim. (Note that St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach remains closed).

Most of the affected beaches are located in the Upper Peninsula, which experienced heavy rains and severe flooding earlier this month, but a few are in Southeast Michigan.
