US Marshals Searching For Convicted Macomb County Child Molester On The Run

"We literally have no leads and no idea where he's at right now"

SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - Federal and Macomb County authorities are asking for tips to find a child molester on the run..

According to Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Aaron Garcia, convicted sex offender Michael Flaker of Shelby Township was out on bond on a GPS tether when he absconded on January 24.

The 73-year-old fugitive now wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service, Macomb County Sheriff's Office and Shelby Township police.

"He was getting ready to be sentenced on eight counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct," Garcia told WWJ's Sandra McNeill. "He was looking at a substantial amount of jail time after pleading guilty. He was looking at around 25 years to life, and he cut his tether off and disappeared."

Authorities received an alert that the tether had been cut, Garcia said, but by the time officers arrived at the last location where the tether pinged -- in the area of 22 Mile Road and Central Park in Shelby Township -- Flaker was gone.

Garcia said Flaker confessed in court to sex crimes involving multiple underage victims -- victims who will not feel safe until Flaker is in prison.

Flaker is listed as the owner of the now defunct Cricket Insurance company in Shelby, with a net worth of up to $500,000.

Where do investigators believe he might be?

"We have no idea," Garcia said. "We believe he could be in state, out-of-state at this point. We literally have no leads and no idea where he's at right now."

Flaker has contacts in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Florida, Garcia said. Investigators do believe that there are people who know where Flaker is, and who are helping him to evade capture.

Anyone with information should call the U.S. Marshals Office at 313-234-5656.
