(WWJ) Violent video of what appears to be Chippewa Valley students pummeling each other mercilessly in a hallway is making the rounds on social media.

Chippewa Valley High School sent a letter to parents Tuesday addressing the incidents and telling parents to reinforce the message that "fighting is never an acceptable way to resolve conflict."

The letter adds that the number of students in the skirmishes was small, and those involved "have been subject to suspension, expulsion and police charges."

Still, Principal Todd Distelrath wrote in the letter to parents that the fights were disheartening.

"This has not been the culture of our school, and will not become the culture of our school," he wrote.

One parent told WDIV-TV the videos had her wondering if the school was safe enough for her child

"Something has to be done, these kids think it’s OK, they’re posting it. I don’t feel like it’s a safe place to send my son," she told WDIV.

Per U.S. News and World Report, Chippewa Valley High School is ranked the 213rd best school in Michigan.

Superintendent Ron Roberts told WDIV only a few students were involved and "we have adults in our buildings and hallways."
