DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities are searching for a young man believed to be heading up a criminal organization operating out of Detroit.

Deaire Deshawn Brown, police say, has been identified as the leader of a small group of thieves who jump pharmacy counters in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.

They steal bottles of liquid Promethazine, or codeine syrup, which they then sell on the street.

To date, this crew allegedly has been responsible for 78 thefts in 2018, targeting CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart, Sams Club, Kroger, Meijer pharmacies, as well as and some smaller mom and pop drugstores. They've used no weapons, and minimal force -- at most bumping into the pharmacist -- according to investigators, and they switch up vehicles on almost every theft.

Brown is 24 years old, 6'2'' tall and around 145 lbs. No additional suspects have been named or described.

As an investigation continues, a $1,000 reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers for tips in this case.

Anyone who has seen this wanted suspect or has information that could help police solve this case should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
