(WWJ) Ann Arbor police are investigating a series of vehicle crashes on I-94, including one incident where a Warren man got out of his car and was killed when he was hit by a passing car.

The deadly incident began for the 36-year-old victim when he hit water and crashed into another vehicle on eastbound I-94 near Stone School Road after heavy rain hit the area Friday.

The driver got out to check damage when he was hit by another driver who hit the same patch of water and also lost control of his vehicle.

It was a reminder, police said, to stay inside your vehicle at all times, even after you're involved in a crash.

Family members said this victim got out of the car to make sure the other driver was okay. "He had a heart of gold and always put everyone else before him," the family member said. "He could have cared less about his car."
