Warren Meijer Pharmacy Tech Charged With Stealing Xanax

WARREN (WWJ) - A woman who worked at a Meijer pharmacy in Warren is facing felony charges, accused of stealing prescription pills.

Police and prosecutors allege that Brahndi Miller, a pharmacy tech at the store located at 10 Mile Road and Schoenherr, stole more than 2,200 Alprazolam prescription pills from the pharmacy. Alprazolam is the generic form of the narcotic Xanax, highly addictive drug prescribed to treat anxiety and depression.

Defendant’s job duties provided her frequent access to prescription drugs, according to Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith.

It's alleged that, three times between May and June of this year, Miller would act as if she was returning stock bottles to the shelf and  select a bottle of Alprazolam. She then would take that bottle to the pharmacy’s consultation room, according to investigators, conceal the bottle in her pants and then resume her duties.

All three of the incidents were caught on the pharmacy’s security footage.

“Unfortunately, in recent years, the abuse of Xanax has exponentially grown and caused tremendous harm in the community," Smith said, in a statement. "To see someone in a position of trust with such access to dangerous narcotics is a very serious threat to the safety of our residents in the current environment of the prescription drug epidemic.”

Miller faces one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Alprazolam, a 4-year felony, one count of Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud, a 4-year felony, and one count of Embezzlement $200-$1,000 a 1-year misdemeanor.

Bond was set at $3,500 cash/surety an arraignment June 7 in Warren District Court.
