March 20, 2019 - 3:02 pm

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - A Waterford Township man has been charged with first degree premeditated murder in the death of his wife.

Police said Thomas Paul Sudz killed 56-year-old Beth Ann Alsup-Sudz and then attempted to take his own life, Sunday evening, at their home on Lockwood Drive in the area of Hatchery and Airport roads.

Waterford Police Chief Scott Underwood said the victim died from apparent blunt force trauma, while her 71-year-old husband was found unconscious from an apparent overdose after police were called to the house for a welfare check.

While police said an investigation found it appeared to be a homicide/attempted suicide, it's still unclear what led to the killing, as further details have not been released.

Sudz was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but survived, and was arraigned in 51st District Court.

Bond was denied, and Sudz's next court date was set for Wednesday, March 27.
